"Anything Butt" Is the Name of
the Game
Friday's Backyard BBQ will have 3 categories:
- Beef
Any cut of beef is
allowed, including hamburger!
- Fowl
Any type of edible fowl is allowed, including quail and
pheasant.
- Tropical Drink
These will be judged by looks as well as taste. Bring
your best bartending skills!
Inspection will begin at 9 a.m. Judging
of Beef will start at 6 pm, Fowl at 7 pm, and Tropical Drink at
8:00pm with winners announced Saturday afternoon. Judging will be "Blind" only.
Saturday's Amateur Ribs Contest
As the headline says, this contest is for amateurs only.
The cooking takes place starting Saturday morning with a turn in
time of 3:00pm. Go up against all the other "Backyard
Chefs" and see if your ribs stand up!
Contestant Responsibilities:

Teams may cook with any type of
wood and/or charcoal.

Other flammable (propane,
compressed or liquid gas, etc.) may be used within the cooker
ONLY TO START THE INITIAL FIRE.

No type of flammable may be used
with the cooker once the meat has been placed there.

Flammables may be used outside
and away from the cooker to make additional coals.

Electrical devices may be used
within the cooker as long as they do not directly generate heat.

Approved devices include
rotisseries, fans and delivery systems for approved fuels.

Electric smokers, holding ovens
or containers, or any other devices with heat-producing
electrical coils are not allowed.

Meat for the contest may be
frozen or fresh.

Meat may not be pre-cooked,
sauced, spiced, injected, marinated in any way, or otherwise
pre-treated prior to official meat inspection.

Meat must be maintained at a
temperature below 40 degrees Fahrenheit prior to cooking and at
or above 140 degrees after cooking.

Barbeque cannot be sold to the
public at any time.

Entry Fee: $10.00 per event
Applications and entry fees may be received as late
as
September 12, 2009. You will have access to water and
electricity.
Waiver of Liability
In consideration of accepting this entry, I the undersigned,
intending to be legally bound, hereby for myself, my heirs,
executors and administrators, waive any and all legal right and
claims for damages I may have against the Bowie BBQ Duel/Jim Bowie
Festival, the host sponsor, the City of Vidalia, RiverView RV
Park, their representatives, successors and assigns for any and
all injuries by myself or my team in the event. Further, I
hereby grant full permission to the event organizers and/or agents
authorized by them, to use any photographs, videotaped, recordings
or any other record of this event for any legitimate reason.
I agree to abide by the rules and regulations of the Jim
Bowie Festival.
