Vidalia, Louisiana is practically a benchmark for quality of life. Honored repeatedly as one of the cleanest towns in the state, Vidalia prides herself on her progressive, community values.
The Vidalia Landing, with its scenic view of the river, is one of the single most ambitious and successful projects in the entire Miss-Lou area. The RiverWalk stretches past the Comfort Suites Hotel, the RiverPark Medical Center, and an open-air amphitheatre before reaching the Riverview RV Park. A Louisiana Visitor's Center is located in our beautiful Convention Center, overlooking the Mississippi River.
Vidalia has one of the very lowest crime rates in the state of Louisiana. We own our utility system, which keeps utility rates low. And the public school system is recognized as being one of the very best in the state, its students regularly scoring much higher than average on statewide placement testing. Our town also boasts lower property taxes than any in the surrounding area.
Looking for recreation? Besides being situated on the banks of the Mississippi River, Vidalia is practically next door to numerous lakes, perfect for swimming, water sports, and some of the best fishing to be found anywhere! Hunting is also a favorite, with abundant wild game from which to choose - especially White-tail Deer!
Vidalia has ball parks and tennis courts inside the city limits, with plans for a more extensive recreation complex in the works. Three beautiful golf courses surround Vidalia, with numerous others within short driving distances.
We play host to a number of grand festivities, most especially the Jim Bowie Festival. Celebrating the legend of this Louisiana native, the Bowie Festival features the Louisiana State Championship Bowie BBQ Duel. There's a Vidalia Flea Market at the Landing in October, a Classic Car Show in May, Vittles and Fiddles in April, and a family-fun, old fashioned Fourth of July Celebration with fireworks over the river!
